Folk! Seriously, though, Andrew Vladeck is a pretty cool guy.

Image totally stolen from the press section of Andrew's site. Thanks.
“What do you want a leather jacket for?” Jeremy asked me, incredulously.
I was incredulous that he couldn’t understand why.
“All of my heroes have leather jackets,” I protested, “Suzi Quatro, Joan Jett, The Fonz– The Greaser (note: it was later discovered that The Greaser does NOT own a leather jacket but he said that his skin is, in fact, tough like leather and I was permitted to use his name in this example).”
“It’s Southern California and you’ll never wear it,” Jeremy refuted, calmly.
“I’ll wear it on stage.”
“No, you won’t.”
End of discussion. For now, anyway. But not because Jeremy was right (which he sort of was). I probably won’t ever wear a leather jacket on stage but that’s just because I’m saving up all of my pennies for one of those sweet leather jumpsuits like Suzi Quatro used to wear. I mean, if I’m going to do this– I’m going to do it right, right?
This brings me to Andrew Vladeck.
Andrew Vladeck is a multi-instrumentalist/multi-talented musician out of New York. He’s currently on tour with one of his many projects, The Honey Brothers, and we here at Lou’s Records were lucky enough to snag him for a solo in-store on Monday, September 14th at 5pm, just before his show with The Honey Brothers at the Belly Up!
Andrew has managed to take the best of independent rock-and-roll and mash it together with old-time folk music making for an end product that is somehow sweet, thoughtful, rough around the edges and easy to listen to without being boring or predictable. His music is energetic without being abrasive and his record, The Wheel, is comfortable like that leather jacket that you’re being told not to get.
Now back to the leather jacket–
Not two weeks after my aforementioned conversation with Jeremy, do I get Andrew Vladeck’s album, The Wheel, for the record store. I open up the CD to play it in the store and staring back at me is one, Andrew Vladeck, sporting a leather jacket. I realize then, as if I didn’t know it already, that besides being a great musician, Andrew Vladeck must be a pretty cool guy.
Suzi Quatro, Joan Jett, The Fonz, The Greaser (leather skin, remember?) and now Vladeck… think about it, Jeremy.
Come check out one cool guy on Monday, September 14th at 5pm here at Lou’s Records and be sure to check out his band later that night at the Belly Up!
Andrew Vladeck’s album, The Wheel, is available at Lou’s Records and signed by the man, himself.
